Abstract

The man lives in society and from there it is learned that he is a social being, experiencing his experiences with other individuals, thus being "connected" to others in the so-called relationship. It is about the relationship of man with the world that the philosopher Martin Buber focuses, this being his object of study. The book I and Thou is the work that best expresses the core of its philosophy and aims to demonstrate that everyone has the ability to relate in a dialogical way and need to develop this ability, that is, to relate considering that there is another one. The man-world relationship admits a duality, the I-Thou attitude that constitutes the essential act of man, an attitude of encounter between two partners in reciprocity and mutual confirmation and the I-That attitude constituted by the experience and use of the other, a objective attitude. Considering these philosophical assumptions, this article aims to correlate the buberian philosophy with the poem A escutatória by Rubem Alves, considering that both works deal with the same theme, the encounter. The poem was divided into twenty-three verses to facilitate the correlation and some points were listed for the correlation. It is concluded then that Rubem Alves and Martin Buber agreed that in order to live like this it would be necessary for each one to review their behaviors and align them with the consideration of the other, because such a posture is the revealing of the human.
